Dead Space 2

Ohoho what do we have here? You now have what looks like rocket boots like astro boy along with a stylish space suit. Doesn't this just remind you of Metroid? But with all that aside, you know I'm definetly going in for the buy and we're going to play it in my dark basement with the lights out. Question is, it doesn't have a release date yet and 2010 is pretty vague. I smell buttered popcorn and hot chocolate (unrelated).

The Future of Nintendo Consoles

In a recent interview between Popular Mechanics and Shigeru Miyamoto, published on IGN, Miyamoto was asked what he believes is the future of Nintendo's next home console. You can go read the article for yourself in the link provided; but to sum it up, the next console according to Miyamoto is going to include more compact motion controls at a more economical price.

He is also quoted as saying, "What I don't think is particularly true is that the graphics make the game," he said. "We're still going to focus on the game play. We'll take advantage of the technology as it comes out, but right now, this is what we offer."

Now this is all good, a game requires substance. It can look amazing but in the end if the game is horrible, the graphics are not going to save it. But let's be frank, I'm sure many of us are tired of looking at those dated graphics. I would not mind paying a little bit extra for a console that is going to have graphics from this generation and not the last.

Another thing, the hardware is beyond old at this point. We need a system that caters to both the hardcore and the casual crowds. The Wii's hardware is ridiculous. The next console should at least contain 8GB of internal memory. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it isn't very expensive these days to have 8GB of internal flash memory, 8GB USB drives range from $16-30. The next console should also have hardware that can actually run the internet channel without running out of virtual memory every 4 web pages.

Besides the hardware, many of the games coming out for the Wii are atrocious. Like I mentioned in a previous article, the only good games on the Wii are ones produced by Nintendo and a few third party companies. Unless Nintendo upgrades the hardware specs to a level near Sony's and Microsoft's next gen consoles, or at least to the point where they can't port it from a system that is 10 years old (PS2 I'm looking at you), the next console is going to be an utter disgrace.

The hardware and graphics do not need to be incredible, but seriously, let's move on into the future, I'm tired of seeing horrible games being produced everyday at almost no cost with the graphics of a really crappy N64 game.

Harvest Buffet

Amidst the vast collection of buffets sprawled across the eastern hemisphere, very few stand out. Quality Food is not usually a prerequisite for establishing a buffet, in fact; buffets make their money by setting prices that you will probably never be able to meet. (After all, it is a business they're running.) This fine establishment that we four have visited is none other than Harvest Buffet. It isn't the cheapest place around but it's decent, in taste, selection, and price.

We referred to ourselves as the Four kings of old, going there on a seasonal basis whenever we all met up, but it seems that we were not the only ones, in fact on a recent search of this fortress of food I discovered that there were those known as the "Disciples of Harvest". They are a group shrouded in secrecy who claim to be the "disciples" of this holy eatery. We have raided this establishment of it's finest cuisine in an attempt to eat out body weight in food in order to get our money's worth many times before. We were the original harvest goers (probably not). But I guess there will always be room out there for other pillagers to take their place in the Harvest Buffet Hall of Fame. These disciples of harvest can be found on facebook under groups.
This is the Facebook page of the "Disciples of Harvest":

The Four Kings of Old

In my late night insanity after coming home from 11 hours of class I've decided to compile a list of some of the groups catch phrases/actions. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Jonas: "That's gonna give me cancer!"
Nabil:"YEAHYEAHYEAHYEAHYEAH!
Eugene: "Wait, what?"
Zhuping: slaps eugene over the head.

And from our recent visit to Yummy Kitchen(aka average overpriced Chinese Restaurant)
Zhuping: "This soup is eh." Drinks ramen.
Jonas: "Let me try my soup. Drinks ramen.
Nabil: Let me try my soup. Drinks beef sauce.
Eugene: Let me try my soup. Drinks curry gravy.

P.S. We might start blogging about our food experiences, including our trip to the restaurant above. Assuming I'm talking to that one guy that reads our blog, you know who you are.

How to Fix Annoying YouTube Jumpiness in Firefox

Many users, myself included, visit YouTube on an almost daily basis. Ever since Firefox version 2.0 implemented the session restore function, when you are watching a video on YouTube (perhaps on other video sites as well, I haven't really tested that), you may notice a tiny freeze-up of the video every 10 seconds or so. This happens because the session restore is by default set to save all open tabs every 10 seconds. This is especially noticeable if you happen to have a lot of tabs open at once.

The quick fix for this problem, at least for my own sake, is to increase the time between each of the saves performed by session restore. By opening about:config in your Firefox address bar, then typing browser.sessionstore.interval in the filter box, you'll see a value of 10000, which is in milliseconds. (Meaning your session is saved every 10 seconds.) I changed this to 300000, or every 5 minutes, as I don't have the urgent need for tab restoration. If you feel like being more on the safe side, try increasing it to something a bit lower, say 120000, or every 2 minutes.

Download Youtube videos (Without Software)

So you've seen an awesome video and you want to download it right? But then you realize, this is youtube we're talking about, you can't just click and download. Well think again. I came across this during my downloading rage, it doesn't require you to download any software either. Visit the link below and follow exactly as it says. Enjoy guys. MP4s for ALL!

P.S. Not all videos work after you download them. But it's worth a shot. Also I suggest putting the bookmark on the Bookmarks tab if you have firefox to make downloading as easy as 1 click.

Twitter...

I thought I knew the internet, but apparently I don't because I've been living under a rock for several months when it comes to the newest internet craze, Twitter. I had no idea what Twitter was until recently. I've looked at several Twitter pages and it seems that the purpose of Twitter is to publish every second of your existence on a website for others to see. Is there any real reason why you want someone to know you've just entered the bathroom to take a huge dump after eating a spicy bean burrito at Gordo Gonzales' Taco Hut? or that you just cleared your esophagus of all of it's phlegm after a week of throat infection? Probably not. Correct me if I'm wrong about this whole Twitter craze, or let me know what you guys write on Twitter.

(I don't expect any response since no one reads this goddamn blog anyway lol, but if you ever happen to come across this article, write your opinions on this.)

Fortune Cookies

The age old tradition after eating Chinese takeout has always been to open up that fortune cookie to read what the future has in store for you. The other day my friend got a fortune that went something like this: "Give up in life and handover all of your decision-making to someone else". What kind of messed up guy would write that? I imagine someone who looks something like this: but then again who knows... All I know is that it's probably a person in a dark room with no future, whose only joy in their pathetic existence is to make someone else's life a little bit worse.

On another note, I love those fortune cookies that try to teach you Chinese even though you'll most likely sound like a complete idiot in front of a Chinese person attempting to formulate a sentence out of "Fish, thank you, and eggplant." Or insult them because the word, when pronounced slightly different, has a whole other meaning to it.

The lesson learned: Luck will visit you on the next full moon as the grasshopper of legend hops over the golden dragon of destiny.
Learn Chinese:
感谢你的鱼茄子
Lucky Numbers: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

Wii's next Zelda

Zelda+MotionPlus+Wii's graphics = CHARGING MEH LAZERr.
the mathimatical aspects of that makes no since but the image above does. I don't know anything more than you would know just by looking at their lastest image. This is real and myamoto himself explained it too. Judging by the picture, Link is older along with the kid from Twilight Princess. I forgot that her name, but I do remember getting the blue diving suit from it in her mother's secret grave compartment.

The Phantom Crapper

Have you ever gone to take a crap in a toilet that already had feces in it? This is the predicament that my family and I have faced several times at my house. We have recently installed a new bathroom in our basement. The bathroom works perfectly fine, but every now and then we see a big old piece of poo in the toilet. We have no idea where it comes from. None of my family members claim ownership to the stool in the toilet that seems to mysteriously show up on the most random occasions. I have reason to believe that there is a phantom living in my house that decides to take a crap in my basement toilet just for laughs. I imagine this supernatural being floating into the basement bathroom and leaving an otherworldly dump. Today the legend of the phantom crapper has extended to the newly installed second floor toilet. It was flooded today with no one taking the blame for the flooding. Who knows what the source of this mysterious dung is. If I find out who is to blame I will inform you all as soon as possible. Wish me luck.

How Nintendo screwed people with their Wii... (That sounds extremely wrong)

I'm waiting for Zhuping to say something about this post's title. Anyway I'm sure many of you were ecstatic when the Wii was going to be released way back in 2006 (Wow it's nearly 3 years already?). Anyway, I'm sure many of us, for the most part, were waiting for the release of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and maybe a chance to play some of the other innovative games like Wii Sports.

No one anticipated that the Wii would be such a weak system, hardware wise. (All of you Nintendo Fan boys out there; before you bash me, you should know that I am a huge Nintendo fan who only owns Nintendo Systems.) The system barely had a hard drive; 512 MB isn't nearly enough, I would have liked 2 GB or at least for the Wii to have made it to the 1 GB mark. We're not in the 1990s! Even today USB Flash Drives with at least 1 GB of memory are extremely cheap and becoming cheaper. But thank god Nintendo still allowed for external memory in the form of SD cards and even added compatibility in their latest Wii Update 4.0.

That's not the only problem that I have with the Wii, there is also the graphics. Originally I had no problem with the graphics, hoping that the innovative game play would be enough to make up for it completely. But it's almost 3 years into the Wii and I'm starting to believe this is another Gamecube at the end of it's life. The developers don't seem to be mastering the use of the Wii remote and many are not attempting to develop games that have realistic use of the controller. I own the best Wii games, and that is not saying much considering that there are only a few top Wii games above the 8.0 score rating on IGN.com. Besides those few top games such as Twilight Princess, Super Mario Galaxy, Wii Fit, Metroid Prime 3, Rock Band 2, etc. there is an overwhelming number of horrible titles for the Wii. Most of these horrible titles are targeted towards young children and are made with very low budgets. Many of these titles use graphics that are worse than the N64's and have generic titles like "Saturday Night Super Party Fun Elephant Bowling Extreme" (That's just an example, but I'm sure it's not too far off). Honestly, is this the kind of system that you wanted? I was looking at the games being released in January and February and most of those titles were horrible low budget games that achieved a 1.0-5.0 out of 10 on IGN. Seriously, where are all of those great publishers hiding? But these horrible games aren't really Nintendo's fault. The only possible explanation is that these publishers are taking advantage of the weak system specs, slapping on Wii remote functionality, and calling it a day.

The future of the Wii is inevitable. It will continue to be the #1 console, making the most money from games such as Wii Fit and all of those low budget games, unless you the gamers decide to stop buying those garbage titles, which may eventually happen in the long run. But I am starting to think that although there is still hope, Nintendo is taking too many shortcuts by recycling old games like Pikmin and Donkey Kong Jungle Beat and adding Wii remote functionality. Honestly, these were good games, but do we need to re-release them to prove that they are still fun with Wii Remote functionality? Nintendo should not concentrate on quick games and re-releases, it should put it's effort into making a new Pikmin and Donkey Kong title.

I think all we need is a new Zelda to make us forget of all of the horrible games that were released this year. I have some hope in Nintendo, and I'm looking forward to the new games that are in production such as The Conduit. Although the casual is doing very well right now, let's hope that the hardcore makes a comeback to the Wii. I know that we will never receive great titles like Resident Evil 5, Halo, or Soul Calibur 4 on the Wii but hopefully other developers, like the one that developed MadWorld, will begin to revive the hardcore on this small white console.

Stay tuned for my other Wii related rants to come!

Welcome to the Underground

Welcome to The Underground. This is a temporary blog title until we all decide on whether to rename it or not. As the information under the title states, this blog will have articles about games, computers, and anything else that we see fit to include in the blog.

final fantasy: Crystal Bearers

now this is what I can call pushing the Wii's graphics.
